This type of dermatitis can be both a pathology and a symptom of other diseases. In either case, it can lead to skin infections.<\/p>\n<p>Exfoliative dermatitis is not contagious. At first, the skin subject to this dermatitis appears reddened and shiny, similar to a rash. To then present true scaly, thick skin eruptions that quickly become prone to scaling and exfoliation.<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes, this condition is accompanied by other symptoms such as fever, generalized malaise, and chills.<\/p>\n<h2>What are the causes?<\/h2>\n<p>Exfoliative dermatitis can be caused by systemic diseases, infections or by taking certain medications. Autoimmune diseases, such as psoriasis, may be among those responsible for this type of dermatitis. Other causes can also be allergic reactions to particular types of drugs such as some antibiotics.<\/p>\n<p>Some cancer diseases, such as leukemia, can also have this particular dermatitis as a side effect.<\/p>\n<h2>Exfoliative dermatitis: the face<\/h2>\n<p>If dermatitis affects the skin of the face, rashes will be concentrated on the cheeks, forehead, lips, and eyelids.
